BERMUDA - FIRST IMPRESSIONS: June 2009
Well, it much longer than I thought it would for my work permit to come through, but now I have finally arrived in Bermuda.
Wow what a place!!

The cruise ships are the size of blocks of flats how they even move in the water is amazing to me. The sea is breathtakingly clear.
I live on a hillside in a small flat so I have to walk down a hill to the main road get picked up by car or bus to go to work. As I am walking down the hill through the gaps in the houses is a vision of the bluest sea you can imagine straight from a James Bond movie. I do not think I believed places like this existed. I have only seen pictures of landscapes like this from the internet and in glossy magazines. At night you can hear the unusual sound of tree frogs, millions of them making whistling noises all over the island - see the picture below. The frogs make a noise much louder than you might imagine such a tiny creature could even make and are are only the size of your thumbnail. How can something so small make so much noise! I ask myself? There are also lots of green and black lizards - I had a larger black one which came into my kitchen recently.

The locals are all very friendly, with every colour and creed here on the island all mixed up together. There is also big Portuguese contingent. Everyone is very sociable and make you feel specially welcome. I love it here, it is so very easy going and relaxing with beaches to die for, and of course making and creating hot glass all day in the studio. Paradise!

When the cruise ships dock, the studio is inundated with thousands of eager visitors, watching the glassmaking demonstrations and buying glass pieces from the showroom.

April 2009: GOODBYE UK - HELLO BERMUDA!!
It has been 10 years since I opened the Firefly Glass studio at Edwinstowe in north Nottinghamshire, a special place where I have spent many happy hours glass making, and selling to visitors and galleries throught the UK.

I would like to send a big thankyou to all those who supported me during that time, also to the thousands of visitors and customers many of whom became friends during my time there.
I will miss you all, together with Sherwood Forest and Edwinstowe.

The Firefly studio has now closed, but from the beginning of April 2009, I shall be flying out to Bermuda to my new job glassblowing at the Dockyard Glass studio in the Old Royal Naval Dockyard, where cruise ships call in all the year round with a constant flow of eager visitors, and there is a varied and experienced team of other glassmakers.

I am so excited to be going on to this new phase of my career!!

DOCKYARD GLASS IN BERMUDA
Bermuda is an island located 890 miles off the coast of North Carolina USA. It is quite a small island in the Atlantic Ocean which is 22 square miles in area.

There is no Autumn or Winter in Bermuda!

The Royal Naval Dockyard is situated on the tip of the island and is reached by ferry from the capital Hamilton, or by bus.
The cruise ships dock in this harbour and the glass works is situated in one of the large buildings by the dock side.
